To mark German Foundation Day the foundation baudenkmal bundesschule bernau (bbb) shows a masterpiece of silent cinematography in the auditorium of the ADGB Trade Union School: the poetic documentary film "Man with a Movie Camera" (1929) by Dziga Vertov (USSR).
The film is an inimitable experiment, a moving play with the camera and a document of its time undoubtedly worth seeing. The turbulent sequence of images documents life in several Soviet cities in a montage of scenes, the cameraman of the title ever-present. The Soviet Union was in those days seen as land of awakening and opportunity, also by the architect of the ADGB Trade Union School, Hannes Meyer.
Before the main film, an edition of the newsreel series “Kino-Pravda” (cinema-truth) produced by Vertov from 1922 to 1925 will be shown. The topics covered by the series take an in part highly socio-critical look at everyday life in the Soviet Union.
Musical accompaniment for the film evening will be provided by Rudolf Gäbler of Musica e Parole on piano. The renowned film historian Dr. Günter Agde will introduce the film and will also answer questions after the showing.
The film evening, which will conclude ca. 9 p.m., is organised by the foundation baudenkmal bundesschule bernau (bbb). The chairman of the board of directors of the foundation and Mayor of Bernau bei Berlin, André Stahl, will open the event. The event is sponsored by IB Group (IB Berlin-Brandenburg gGmbH), who will also provide refreshments for guests prior to the film.
Admission to the film evening is free.
